This trip have proven me to be a travel addict. One, today is the last day of enrollment and i have rather taken the trip than complete the procedure. I'd make an appeal on wednesday instead by the time i'm back in manila.

Two, the day before the trip, the school has called for being shortlisted for the scholarship grant and that i have to attend an interview the ff day, i.e. Day of my flight to cebu.

I was torn.

My boss was acting wild that day too such that he'd go mad at every work i do. I was holding my horses the whole day. I would have almost yelled at him back, rather making me willfully push this trip.

Right after the call from the college, my mind went bezerq. Blah blah blah.. Slept for an hour, and Woke up 2am to prepare for commuting to clark airport, thru airphil express.

I got too early in the gate. 5am, i was ready to board a 7:20 flight. It was exactly 7:20 when we left and we arrived 20mins ahead, 8:20.

On the flight, i did not want to sleep since it's too short to even get my eyes to close. From up, i got an aerial view of mayon and the other islands i've been to, including alibijaban island.

It was late in the afternoon when we got to bantayan. We didn't want to waste any time so we took the motorbike and went to st peter and paul's church and passing through the Mangrove forest. For some reason, there is this feeling of fulfillment when you get to go around unfamiliar town on your own transpo, free to stop whenever you feel like.

Upon reaching the church, from inside, the embellishments would tell you how conservative the people are. After some close look at the church, we went out and explored the Plaza. 

I tried the Carlito's fried chicken with that specialty rice as i was starving. Didn't find much to fancy though as it was a regular fried chicken. What gave me the excitement was having to eat with my hands wrapped in plastic. From there, we were brought to the port, where there was a view of the smaller (seemingly populated) islands. 

We went back to sta fe afterwards. My travel mate was freaking to try Tristan's pizza and offered a treat. We dropped by, and in turn, I volunteered to scout some beer. After that utterly sweet pizza, We went back to beach placid, took a bath, and then we were brought to this so called Route 66 Comedy Bar.

I was expecting it to be like those sawali videoke bars normally along bus stops. Then again, this makeshift comedy bar is not bad enough to think that i am well off the city. Quite an experience. So, without much crankiness, I stood up when asked to go up the stage, answered whatever intruding question they threw, and sang whatever they played on the karaoke.  

The morning after, we rented a scooter and drove towards bantayan and cross towards TAMI AO where Bantayan Nature's Park and pool cave (other than Ogtong is). We struggled in the directions, but the ride was well enjoyed. 

In my mind, i thought it was more like a plaza since it was bearing the 'Bantayan' tag. Apparently, it's a private resort.

Then again, for a P100 daytour trip, you get to use their billiards, videoke, and swim in the cave. Not bad after all. I also tried the fish spa which costs an affordable 50/15mins.

It was already late when we left the Nature's park. We were told it's much quicker to take the Silion route. Indeed, in less than 30minutes I guess, we got past Beach Placid. The route was rough but quite scenic.

Back in the resort, took my beach time.  I also ran out of cigarette so bought in the nearby store..and the only brand they have is WINSBORO.. And i bought it with a smile :-)

Took a bath, then off on my scooter again. Went to a local carinderia, then thought about looking for a tripod in the '168'-like 888 store in poblacion. I knew I was unlikely to get one, but it was more of that finding a reason to justify something you want - just to roam around. And, of course, there was no tripod.

The sun was still quite up so i thought about heading further to madridejos.
What I was thinking then was to have a talk with some locals. I make it a point that I get to hang around locals whenever I visit some place - see their behavior and know some more about the people and place. There was also the buko offer of someone we met in the ferry. So, there we go, I asked him that he take me around madridejos which he did.

We first head to their main resort where sunset was great. I couldn't quite see the blueness of the beach anymore as it was dusk. Bumming in the sunset though is enough reason to drive 30kms away. 

After that the sun was down, we went to the other beaches though it was dark and there were no lights.

I was asking him where we can hang out; again, some makeshift clubs or whatsoever, and he told me about this place where locals come - videoke. I thought I was going to see something I had in Sta Fe, but, this one is evern more simple. It was rather a sari sari store with a videoke machine on a hut next to it. But again, enjoy whatever there is. The singers weren't bad after all.

It was past 8pm, after a shared mucho gold eagle beer that i went back home to beach placid. It was quite dark, no transpo along the hiway, but hell I care. I would have been more scared if I were in the city. Through silion route, I passed by Nature's park again where my tour buddy was, watching the Bantayan Idol singing contest. Everyone's on awe looking at the performer who's even partly covered by a tree in front of the stage. I didn't really want to spend the rest of my time hearing some great voices, so I left. I was more excited seeing the sayawans on the basketball courts. From there, i've stopped and watch portions of 3 sayawans, and 1 teen pageant; Bought several mango shakes, popcorns, all the street food there were.

Added notes: 
-Bantayan nature park and resort requires proper swimming attire in the cave. No maong shorts whatsoever; hence, i had to be on underwear; thank goodness I was alone.
-Danggit price in Bantayan is 110/.25kl
-there is an allied bank atm around the  plaza.
-for those renting a scooter bike, plaza is one way. They're also not bothered whether u have a motorbike license or not, as long as there's only 3 passengers per bike all in all.
-commodity price is same as the city price.
-Bantayan town proper is about 22kms away from sta fe.

Guimaras in 4 hours

In Parola Port, Ilo Ilo, bound for Jordan Port in Guimaras; Behind is "Hollywood"

It’s already mid afternoon when we got to Guimaras. Not much time for haggling, questions, etc. There is a tourism desk right at the port where they ask travellers to register (though they don’t really ask for any fee). From there, several tricycle drivers would flock to offer touring service at P250 (standard for Trappist, Mango Plantation, and Alubihod). While I thought it was expensive, I was looking at taking the jeepney ride instead. However, it will eat too much of our time, and maybe, we won’t even make it for the 7pm last trip. So, jeep wasn’t really an option. At the same time, I thought P250 was too much; Thought that perhaps, If i just walk further, I might find some other tricycle drivers who can offer lower.

One of the tricycle drivers in the port kept following us though. I went back to him, Kuya Dodeng, and asked if he can lower the price down. By then, he was already asking P450 for the round trip. He said the P250 was rather one way drop, and from Alubihod, we’ll get another service to drive us back to the port.

Since we don’t really intend to stay long, and even if we wished so, there isn’t any time; We asked if he can just charge us P250 for the back and forth trip, anyhow, he’ll have to go back to the port anyway. He was asking for P400 but I said, all I can afford was P300. Another tricycle driver came in probably thinking he can agree to our bargain, but before he did so, Kuya Dodeng said Yes. So.. off we were.

The Mango plantation was our first stop. All the while, I thought we’ll be able to get in, right down the trees and see mangoes hung around. I was surprised when Kuya Dodeng put his tricycle offside in the highway. That was already the mango plantation (viewdeck). It was noticeable that while Guimaras is known for Mangoes, there isn’t really alot of mangoes around. There will be some occasional mango trees, but Kuya Dodeng said, the Mangoes sold are only grown in that Plantation (and is government owned).

From there, our next destination was Trappist. When I asked what it was all about, he said it’s a convent of monks. Didn’t know what to feel as I am not a practicing Christian, but for the heck of it, so be it.

Island hopping happens there

When we got to the monastery, oh yes, there are monks, dressed in their legendary costume. As a matter of respect, before going anywhere else, we approached the monk and introduced. He offered to give us blessing to which I submitted since I’m technically asking favour for being in their place. After his blessing, we went inside the church; My friend said her prayers while I scrutinized around.

After the trappist, then we head to Alubihod, straight to Rayment beach resort.

It’s a small cove that covers about 4 resorts. From there, it was like Hundred Islands in Pangasinan. The real itineraries are off the shore, requiring some boating. And of course, we didn’t have time for that. Instead, we feasted on the creamy fine sand, the rock formations and hut on the side, and spoke to the souvenier vendors. I really regret we didn’t have 4 hours at least. The souvenier vendor’s story of the places to check makes me frustrated, i didn’t leave early for Guimaras.

My namual says the boat to camotes island leaves 11am; I woke up late in Malapascua, and reached the Danao Port by 12. I thought I missed it. Luckily,, there is one more ferry that gets to Camotes, though not through the Consuelo port, but to the other ports, JUNMAR lines.

It was 12:30 when the ferry left, and about 3:30 when we got to PORO port in Guho. From there, after a meeting with the municipal mayor, we were dropped to Buho Rock Resort where we spent the night.

Then, there’s a shuttle bus that leaves Guho and heads to Consuelo at 4am, so we woke up 3:30, and immediately walked towards the Guho-San Fran highway. It was quarter to 5am when the bus arrived and 5:30 when we arrived in Consuelo.

From there, several habal drivers offering their services, but, I thought, we might be able to get a better deal with the roaming habal drivers around town. From the port, we walked inland, but the offer was the same. P500 for a daytour. Instead, we took the P50/head offer for Santiago Beach (where they say I can get a rental motorbike).

Shortly after we arrived in Santiago and some pictures, some habal services came again; But again, the price still won’t fit in my practical rate. Just before I walked towards the resorts, another habal services offered to rent his motorbike for P300. I agreed as I thought the price is OK if I were to drive all the way to GUHO again. The driver also offered that he drive instead which was better so i wont have to fuzz on directions, and that he can give me ideas on where the best places are.

Our first stop is Lake Danao (P15/head). Lake Danao offers paddling P100/head for 45mins. There is also a bigger balsa for bigger groups. There are crocodiles in the lake though so I’m not sure how fun that is, considering the size of the lake.

After Lake Danao, we dropped LAKAD back to Consuelo, and then we head straight to Tudela for Bukilat Cave (see separate entry here for Bukilat Cave ). It took us a while to get here as we had to take a meal stop in san fran town.

After Bukilat, we head over to Timubo cave. The cave is about 50 stairs steps down with small cavity, so getting in is a bit of a challenge. You’ll have to bend forward on your way in. There are lights inside so no need to worry about coursing through. Inside, the pool is about 5 foot deep. And considering how ‘within’ this cave is, I found it hard to breath inside. They’ve also put some kind of grotto inside which, I thought, was an eyesore for the “natural” attraction.

From Timubo, we head next to Bakhaw beach. The entrance charge was only P5 and since we did not have too much time, it wasn’t necessary to get a P150 cottage. Amongst all the beaches we’ve been too in Camotes, I thought this was the best. No much developments, so everything looks great in place. There is one resort in the vicinity though it did not seem to have any guest as it is not as popular just yet as Santiago white beach and Mongodlong. Apparently though, this is what I’d consider the best beach visited at that time

After Bakhaw, since we still had an hour to go, we thought about checking out Mongodlong. Since it was a resort, it did not have that much appeal to me, but for the sake of seeing what it was, we proceeded. They charge P15 for wak in guests, but their facilities look great. I especially like their huts on the beach corner. They also have volleyball court for the sporty guests.

Thereafter, we head back to Santiago for lunch some rest, and more pictures. Then, I asked to be dropped back to Consuelo port for departure.

*Each house in the island, as an alternative to house numbers, have the homeowner’s name printed in a board hung on the gate.

*My corteous habal habal service Jessie, may be contacted at 09493917831. It’s actually her sister’s mobile so just ask to be transferred. I spent P520 for his service all in all, including Gas (exclusive of his meals). Other Habal habal services offered P500 for a whole day tour though im not sure if that would have included those places in BUHO. Negotiate with Jessie for P500 (shared by 2 passengers) whole day tour including Bukilat Cave. Don’t ever miss that in your itinerary.

*Contact nos for Mongodlong beach are 032-3163352/3458599/3446899/4203385 09173290563. Interim rates are P1K for non aircon, and P1.3K for aircon, both 2-4pax. Additional person is 200 for non AC, and P300 for AC. Cash basis only. The resort next to it “Paradise XXXX”, didn’t quite catch the name, seems to have a better beach and rooms.

One of my travel friends has recommended this island to be included in my cebu trip. While I did not have concrete facts about travel in this island, I took the chance since I’ve heard about this island several times.
