Tandu Dagmay Primary School in Patikul, Sulu

The vicious conflict between the military forces and the rebel group Abu Sayaff have silenced this land that is feared, unheard, neglected, and misunderstood – SULU.

Take a ferry ride, and it is also not uncommon to hear stories of people who tried taking opportunities from other cities only to go back home in regret because they were feared, discriminated, and unwanted just because of their notorious origin.

This is my motivation for starting something for Sulu. They are one of us, and we are one with them.

In what hopes to be an incubator of change, the Tandu Dagmay Elementary School in Patikul, Sulu is humbled by dilapidated paints, missing doors, falling ceilings …A story of pupils seated on the floor for there are no seats, overwriting used pads for there is no money to buy new ones, of teachers getting only P1,000 a month for few hours work shared between several grade levels hungry to learn how to escape a life of poverty, hopelessness and war.

Education is their only hope; Together with the community who had been eager to offer their labor on the project, we would like to rebuild this school. Let’s help our brothers find better chances for themselves.

·   Estimations are based out of prices canvassed in the vicinity. The Primary School has 70 pupils: 21 Kindergartens, 28 Grade 1s, and 27 Grade 2s.

Target date of Implementation will be first week of April, right after the classes, as a culmination activity of the school year.
